My husband and I both grew up in Pleasanton. In college I majored in Interior Design, then Architecture and ultimately finished with a Business Degree. When my husband and I bought our first house, we wanted a backyard for a dog and Livermore fit the need. I spent 20 years working for Lockheed Martin in Operations. Lockheed Martin is a wonderful company and allowed me the flexibility to raise my three children while becoming an expert at streamlining processes and problem solving. My favorite activities were drawing up “future workplace solutions” so people could “see” how changes would improve their work life. Unfortunately, these opportunities didn’t come up as often as I would like and while putting in a pool, I drew up the landscape design. Our amazing contractor, Jim Powell, told me I should do Landscape Design and kept encouraging me that he would send me business. In God’s timing, my childhood best friend asked me to design her yard, then my sister…and so Eden Design Services was born. I now specialize in landscape design and creating the perfect customized outdoor space for my clients to enjoy.
I absolutely love getting to know my clients and fully understand what they need and want in their outdoor space. Creating that vision in 3D brings me such energy! I am filled with joy when I can help two people with very different styles both be excited when they “see” them blended together in 3D! We live in such a beautiful place, where we can be outside three fourths of the year and I am passionate about helping people use their space and delight in being outside!
Q: What are some fun activities to do in Livermore?
I love attending downtown events including the Farmer’s Market! We are so blessed to live in such a beautiful place and I love activities where I get to see the hills and vineyards, like bike riding, walking or these days driving kids to sports near them.
Q: What makes the Livermore community so special?
I was holding the door for someone the other day and he said, “Wow, people in Livermore are so kind! I live in SF and it is so different!” I have heard the same thing at the REAL Livermore Realtor Meeting, that people want to move to Livermore because people are friendly! I love helping contribute in a small way to that friendliness!
Q: Please tell us about where you work and what you love about what you do?
I am the Owner and Designer at Eden Design Services where we work to create dream landscapes with purpose and grace! I love connecting with clients to really understand what they want to feel and experience when they walk through their landscape. Once I understand fully what they want to achieve, I get so excited to create it in 3D for them to fully experience! It really is so much fun!
Q: What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?
First Street Alehouse is my favorite! The menu is so diverse that everyone is happy and the food never disappoints! The food isn’t the only thing that makes it my favorite, their goal is to make you feel like you are at home and by the crowd that is always there, they have created a huge home for the Livermore community! Star Anise is another great restaurant with delicious Thai food in downtown Livermore! Demitri’s Taverna’s Greek food is so authentic, I love it!
Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?
I’ve lived in Livermore since 2004
Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community?
My grandfather used to say “You can learn something from everyone” and I really feel like that is true in our community, we are all interesting and have something to teach those who take the time to listen. I can’t think of just one who stands out.
Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?
Ted Lasso is a recent favorite that made me laugh out loud in every episode! I love the positivity that Ted exudes with his “Kansas” roots.
Q: What advice would you give to people?
My favorite quote is from Maya Angelou — ‘At the end of the day people won’t remember what you said or did, they will remember how you made them feel.’
Q: What current or former local business makes you the most nostalgic about our community?
When I was in High School I worked at Interspace Design on Second Street in Livermore. The amazing owner, Sandra Murray, was in the Livermore Downtown Association and she would talk about how they were going to build a Theater and create a really cute downtown. I never thought it would happen, but it sure did! We have Sandra and many others to thank for this beautiful downtown!
Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?
I love that I can still go to Target and park next to a huge muddy truck that came from a farm, vineyard or rolling hills. As someone who loves to be outside and enjoy nature, this is a treasure to me in the Bay Area!
Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
I love that I can still go to Target and park next to a huge muddy truck that came from a farm, vineyard or rolling hills. Agriculture is such a huge part of California! We take for granted the amazing fruit and vegetables grown close by and brought to our farmer’s markets! I hear the produce in other states pales in comparison.
Q: What is your favorite holiday?
Christmas, I love the joy and hope of the season!
Q: Who inspires you?
Joanna Gaines, I love the Magnolia Manifesto and how she exudes joy and love to Waco and the world!
Q: Finally, what 3 words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOME?
Love, family and friends
What is the best way to get a hold of you?
